Douglas Howard Bray

Mr. Douglas ‘Howard’ Bray, 81, of Ruby Drive, Dewy Rose, husband of 61 years to Martha Jean Brown Bray, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in his recliner at home surrounded by the love of his family.

Howard was born at home in Hart County on March 13, 1943, third child of the late Hollis Lincoln Bray and Eula Bell Outz Bray. A talented stonecutter, he established Thirteen Forks Monument Company in 1979 and it is operating today as Bray Granite.

Howard was an avid outdoorsman. He could almost always be found hunting rabbits and birds, and never missed an opportunity to wet his hook and wait for the next big bite or spend time on the golf course. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing ball and throwing horseshoes.

Surviving, along with his wife Martha, are his children: Rhonda Thompson of Gainesville, Candy Yeargin of Elberton, and Tim and Kim Bray of Elberton. He was a devoted “Pop” to his grandchildren: Chaz and Caroline Bray, Cole Bray, Jessie Yeargin, Evan Yeargin, and Blake Thompson; and his great-grandchildren: Cyrus Bray and Esther Bray. He also leaves behind his sister, Sandra Brown of Vanna.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Jerry Bray, Rena Robin, and Nancy Robin.

Honoring Howard’s request, no celebration of life services will be held.
