Mr. Eddy D. Wilhite, 72, of Cartersville, formerly of Elberton, died Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Cartersville Medical Center.
He was born in December 6, 1945, 5th son of the late Lloyd Alton Wilhite and Janie Mae McCurley Wilhite.
He is survived by his wife, Kay B. Wilhite; daughters: Shawna May and Felicia Taylor; five grandchildren: Kayanna, Kaden, and Kaleigh May, McKenzie and Mason Taylor; mother-in-law, Anna Morris; siblings: Nanci Wilhite Brown and Jimmy and Deanie Wilhite; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Wilhite and Donna Wilhite; and several nieces, nephews, great and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Alton “Poo-Pup” Wilhite, Joseph Wilhite, and Hugh Wilhite; niece, Jennifer Wilhite; nephews: Shawn and Greg Wilhite and a great-niece Misti Alison Hobbs.
Mr. Wilhite was a 1964 graduate of Elbert County High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a helicopter search and rescue sailor. After the Navy, he went to Athens Tech and North Georgia Tech where he graduated with a electronic degree. After school he worked twenty years at Lanier Business Products before going into business for himself, C.O.P.S., where he retired after ten years.
He was an avid fan of geese and duck hunting. He had a hunting camp in Alabama where he took his friends and would call up the ducks for them. He was affectionately called “Pops”. He had many friends and they loved his upbeat personality.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018, at 11:30a.m. in the Georgia National Cemetery.
