Mr. Edgar Joe Durham, 91, of Dewy Rose, Georgia entered the Gates of Glory as he passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Mr. Durham was born in Plainview, Texas, son of the late Wesley and Essie Farmway Durham.He was the beloved husband of Vivian Carter Durham, with whom he had celebrated almost 58 years of marriage.He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Joe worked throughout his life as a skilled carpenter, with excellence as his standard.He also dedicated his life to serving the Lord through ministries including Damascas Road Ministries and Jail Ministry.Mr. Joe was a faithful and devoted servant through his church, Faith Baptist Church, and also earlier at Dewy Rose Baptist Church.He whole-heartedly loved people and loved sharing the Gospel as he introduced scores of souls to the saving grace of Jesus.Mr. Joe’s love for his family was a radiant light that shone brightly into each of their lives, and oh how they loved him back.His job as “PaPaw” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled his heart with pride and joy! In addition to his precious wife, Vivian, Mr. Joe is survived by his children: Glen Durham and wife, Karen, of San Luis Obispo, CA, Lori Gaddy and husband, Rodney, of Dewy Rose, and Eddie Durham, Jr. also of Dewy Rose.He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Hannah Timms (Clint), Adam Gaddy (Courtney), Melissa Smith (Bryan), and Shannon Durham;and 11great-grandchildren: Mckenna Timms, Kamdyn Timms, Destiny Gaddy, Addy Gaddy, A.J. Gaddy, Isabella Smith, Bryan Smith, Jr., Cooper Smith, Lucas Smith, Reagan Smith, and Kinsley Smith. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mr. Joe’s life was held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with Rev. Jamie Callaway and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.A time of visitation began at 1:30 p.m. just prior to the service. May we honor Mr. Joe’s life best by remembering and telling others of the words he loved from 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Arrangements for Mr. Edgar Joe Durham were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
