Edison A. “Pete” Rachels, 96, of Greenwood, widower of Louise Young Rachels, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson. He was a son of the late Lester and Mattie Rachels. He was a retired electrical welder, was a US Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Melchizedek Priesthood. He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Linda Johnson; son, Julian Rachels; grandson, James Edison Rachels; great grandson, Cohen Smith; brothers, Johnny, Army, Oscar, Lewis, Emmette and Cecil Rachels; and sisters, Lou Conner, Molly Bullard and Dealver Deal. Surviving is a daughter, Patricia “Pat” Saxon of Elberton, GA; ten grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Rachels of Post Falls, ID. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1417 Cokesbury Road, Greenwood, SC. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery, Abbeville. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is respectfully requested that flowers be omitted and memorials made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1417 Cokesbury Road, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.
