Mrs. Edna Lee Lyle Tate, 98, of Sam Tate Road, Elberton, wife of 56 years to the late George Richard Tate, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
“Ma Tate” or “Miss Edna”, as she was lovingly know to family and friends, was born in Oglethorpe County on March 21, 1918, daughter of the late John Henry Lyle and Clara Sarah Frances Slay Lyle. She was a seamstress, homemaker, and saleslady having worked for Sears. Mrs. Tate was a dedicated member of Eliam United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was an MYF leader, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved flower gardening, quilting, reading embroidering, reading, cooking, and traveling.
Surviving are her children and their spouses: Clara Mae Allgood, G.L. “Buddy” and Sandy Tate, and Becky and Nelson Locke, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Debbie A. Smith, Cindy A. Yeargin, Tracy Tate, and Kimberly Tate-Nuwar; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandchildren: Pamela A. Dickerson and Brian Allgood; brothers: Julian H. Lyle and Curtis Lyle; and son-in-law, Kenneth Allgood.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 11 o’clock in Eliam United Methodist Church with the Rev. Emily Case officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Mrs. Tate will be placed in the church at 10 o’clock.
The family is at the home of Buddy and Sandy Tate, Sam Tate Road, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Tuesday evening.
