Mrs. Eleanor McGill Hendrix, 72,of Elberton, Georgia passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at home. A native of Iva, South Carolina,Mrs. Hendrix was the daughter of the late Joseph Arthur and Martha Jane Barksdale McGill.She was the widow of Walter L. Hendrix.She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsamane Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina. Mrs. Hendrix was one of the founders of the Elbert County Humane Society, and served tirelessly in her efforts to rescue and provide care to neglected animals.She gave, even when she didn’t have it to give. Mrs. Hendrix is survived by a step-daughter, Chris Fawcett of Mead, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mrs. Hendrix also wished to name all members of the Elbert County Humane Society as her survivors, as she considered each of them her family.She also leaves behind a very special friend, Diane Donald, who she considered like a daughter. A service to celebrate Mrs. Hendrix’s life was held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Sam Duncan and Rev. Richard Fife officiating.A time of visitation began at 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hendrix requested that memorial contributions be made to The Elbert County Humane Society at P.O. Box 267, Elberton, GA 30635,or to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter at 870Bearcreek Rd., Lavonia, GA 30553. Arrangements for Mrs. Eleanor M. Hendrix were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
