Elizabeth Higginbotham Hudson

Mrs. Elizabeth Higginbotham Hudson, 87, of Hudson Road, Fortsonia Community, Elberton, wife of 63 years to the late Donald Rayle Hudson, Sr., passed away peacefully at Nancy Hart Nursing Center on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Mrs. Hudson was born in Elberton on December 14, 1934, daughter of the late Dewey Frank Higginbotham and Verna Haynie Higginbotham. She was a graduate of Nancy Hart High School and worked alongside her family as dairy and chicken farmers for over forty years. “Miss Liz” was a member of Fortsonia Baptist Church, attended Eliam United Methodist Church, and was the steward of Fortsonia Community Cemetery for many years. “Mama” was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed cooking for her family.

Survivors include her sons and their wives: Donald Rayle “Donnie” Hudson, Jr. and Anita McCannon Hudson, and William Albert “Billy” Hudson and Donna Saxon Hudson, all of the Fortsonia Community; grandchildren and their spouses: Chris Hudson and Kayla Rice Hudson, Amanda Hudson Fortson and Justin Fortson, Wade Johnson, and Candice Johnson; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Will, Mattison, Charles, Easton, Sadie Rae, and Gatlin; sister-in-law, Mary Jean McCurley Higginbotham Ginn of Elberton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheila Elizabeth Hudson; and siblings: Dewey Higginbotham, Charles Higginbotham, and Kathleen Higginbotham Harper and her husband Frank Harper.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, January 6, at 11 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Teresa Lilja and Mr. Shane Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fortsonia Community Cemetery.

The family is at the residence in the Fortsonia Community and will greet friends on Wednesday, January 5, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
