Mrs. Emma Jean Benton Cooper, 84, of Lexington Road, Carlton, wife of Jack R. Cooper, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016, at her residence. Mrs. Cooper was born in Elbert County on June 24, 1931, to the late Roy and George Will McClain Benton. She was a member of New Town Baptist Church and retired from Blue Bell Sewing Plant. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Dianne C. Maudlin of Lavonia; daughter-in-law, Denise Porterfield Cooper of Carlton; sister, Betty Guest of Carlton; sisters-in-law: Martha Benton of Carlton and Margaret Bullard and her husband Carlton of Jefferson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Bruce Cooper and brothers: J.M, Charles, Emory, Luther, Billy Joe, and G.W. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, February 8, at 2 o'clock in New Town Baptist Church with the Rev. John Guest officiating. Interment will follow in Carlton City Cemetery with Casey Cooper, Kurt Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Tony Lastinger, Ray King, and Dorsey King honored as pallbearers. Ed Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family is at the residence and will receive friends in the church beginning at 1 o'clock on Monday.
