Essielene York Allgood

Essielene York Allgood, 93, of Elberton, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Magnolia Estates in Elberton. 

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024, at New River Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Tony Register and the Rev. Michael Marchant officiating. Mrs. Allgood will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at New River Baptist Church in Tifton from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.  Mark York, Paul York, Chip Mattocks, Christopher York, Patrick Marchant and Clint McCullough will serve as pallbearers.  

Born July 5, 1931, in Guin, Alabama, Mrs. Allgood was the daughter of the late James Buck York and Susan Draper York. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Allgood; one daughter, Krista Allgood Mattocks; and several brothers and sisters. Before retiring, she was the secretary at New River Baptist Church in Tifton, where she was also a member. She was the last surviving child of twelve. She was a lifelong warrior for the Lord and bravely battled Alzheimer’s for several years.  

Mrs. Allgood is survived by one son-in-law and his wife, Charles “Chip” Jr. and Michelle Mattocks of Albany; a host of nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend, Margaret Phelps of Tifton.  

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to New River Baptist Church, 17 Old Brookfield Road East, Tifton, GA 31794 or Bristol Hospice, 1252 Virgil Langford Road #2, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
