Eugenia Mauldin Herndon

Ms. Eugenia Mauldin Herndon, 96, of E. Church Street, Elberton, passed way on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center, where she had been lovingly cared for during the past year.

Ms. Herndon was born in Elbert County on October 13, 1925, daughter of the late John Will Mauldin and Mattie Evelyn Wansley Mauldin, and was a life long member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She was the devoted mother of three sons: John Alexander “Johnny”, Fred Michael “Mike”, and Kenneth, all of whom preceded her in death. Ms. Herndon worked as a secretary all of her life, and will be most remembered from Elbert County High School and Elbert County Board of Education. Following her retirement from the school system, she worked as a part-time secretary at Slocumbe Oil Company. “Grandmother” loved her family dearly, and was happiest when with them.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law and caretaker, Lynn Seymour Herndon of Bowman; grandchildren and their spouses: Nathan and Hannah Herndon, Anna and Jason Terrell, and Brooke and Kevin Campos; great-grandchildren: Noah Herndon, Lydia Herndon, Marti Love Terrell, Jace Terrell, and Connor Moon; and several extended family members.

In addition to her parents and sons, she is preceded in death by her previous husband and father of her children, Fred Herndon; and sisters: Marjorene Mauldin, Jewette Higginbotham, and Frances Dixon.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, December 8, at 11 o’clock at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will greet friends immediately following the service.
