Eva Mae Maskew

Ms. Eva Mae Mincey Maskew, 71, of Millstone Church Rd. Carlton, GA formerly of Elberton, GA passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Maskew was born June 21, 1952 in Elberton, GA to Horace and Nadene Ray Mincey and step-daughter to the late Thomas Phillip Moon.

Eva was a graduate of Elbert County High School in 1970, and Anderson College in 1972 with an AA of Science Degree. During her time in Hattiesburg, MS she received a Bachelor of Science at William Carey College in 1995.

On her return to Elberton, Eva was employed by the Elbert County Board of Education. She returned to school and received a Masters of Art in Teaching in 2005. She was a Pre-K teacher at Beaverdam and later at Bowman Elementary until her retirement in 2012. She was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church in Moselle, MS.

She is survived by her nephew and family; Tony Mincey, Jr., Kelley, Sam, Katelann, two great-great-nieces, all of Carlton; sister-in-law: Judy Wansley Mincey of Elberton, aunt: Barbara Hammond of Elberton; two step-sisters: Martha Gail Moon of Elberton, Lavada Lankford of Ellaville, step-brother: Rev. Thomas Moon of Elberton and her best friend: Vee Oglesby McIntosh of Dewy Rose.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, step-father and two brothers: Alton Mincey and Tony Mincey, Sr.

Funeral services to celebrate Eva's life will be held 11AM, Monday, October 16 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Moon and Rev. Justin McCalla officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10AM to 11Am just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.
