Evelyn Mae Moon Norton

Mrs. Evelyn Mae Moon Norton, 76, of Clairmont Avenue, Elberton, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, with her husband of 33 years, Hensley Calhoun Norton, at her side. 

Mrs. Norton was born in Austin, TX on November 19, 1946, daughter of the late Willie Moon and the late Kathryn Tyner Moon Swan. She was a graduate of Elberton High School and furthered her education in order to become a licensed practical nurse. Evelyn later retired from Elbert Memorial Hospital where she worked for many years. 

She was a member of Assembly Church of Hartwell where she loved her pastor and church family. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed working in her many flower gardens, ceramic statue painting, and reading. Her favorite past time was watching birds, especially hummingbirds and cardinals. 

In addition to her husband, Calhoun, she is survived by her children: Darlene Elmer and her husband Brian of Greer, SC, Darrell Dickerson and his wife Michelle of Dewy Rose, and Donald Dickerson of Dewy Rose; stepchildren: Chad, Sonny, Heather, and McCord; siblings: Charlie Moon of Vanna, Jenny and Mary Ann, both of TX; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives. 

Evelyn’s life will be celebrated during a memorial service on Friday, November 3, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Roland Molina. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
