Miss Evie Lee Coogler, 91, died May 15, 2016 at her home in Elberton, where she was under the care of Gentiva Hospice. She is survived by her Sister/Caregiver Marie Coogler.She is also survived by a niece Linda Spires Isakson and son Corey Childs.Also surviving is a niece Vicki Evans and several Great-nieces and nephews.Evie was cared for by sitter/friends, Martha Ann Booth, Virginia Mills and Jeanie Mae Saddler. Evie was very active in Elberton First United Methodist Church where she held many different offices and sang in the choir for over 70 years.With her love of music, she also taught piano lessons for fifteen years. She was preceded in death by her father, J.B. Coogler and mother, Inez Johnson Coogler, a sister, Ruth Martin “Marty” Coogler Spires and husband Hubert Spires, and a brother John B. Coogler, Jr. and Julienne “Jackie” Coogler. A time of visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Elberton First United Methodist Church.A service to celebrate her life was held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Watson officiating.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Jack Norman, Ray Howell, Gene Craft, Ray Cann, Horace Harper, and Joe Fernandez.Members of The Mary Freeman Sunday School Class at Elberton First United Methodist Church served as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Elberton First United Methodist Church, 132 E. Church St., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Miss Evie Lee Coogler were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
