Mrs. Florence Kemp Leverett, beloved matriarch and generous spirit, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2021 in her home. She was born on February 4, 1930, in Dexter Georgia. She later moved to Fort Valley, Georgia where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Freeman Leverett. She loved and cared for him for 50 years until his passing in 1997.She was talented, loving, generous, and outspoken. She was first and foremost a wife, mother, grandmother, and lover of all children. She had three children: Sheryl Williams (husband Paul) of Gainesville, GA, Debra Garing of Elkin, NC, and Rob Leverett (wife Mary Dana) of Elberton, GA; eight grandchildren: Kinley Williams Mayer (husband John, son Elijah) of LeCompte, LA, Mary Elizabeth Warren (husband Eric, daughter Anna Grace) of Gulfport MS, Linda Williams Ramsay (husband Thomas) of Atlanta, GA, Bryan Williams of Atlanta, GA, Leverett Garing (daughter Halle) of Raleigh, NC, Laura Garing of Elkin, NC, Robert Leverett of New York, NY, and William Leverett of Athens, GA.Her brother, Jack Kemp and wife, Frances, live in Fort Valley, GA. In her final years she was fortunate to welcome caregivers Theo and Margie Brunson, Mahalia Downer, and Doris Anderson into her family.Their love and care for her was such comfort to her and her family. Her culinary skills were legendary---those that were privy to Florence’s cooking will never forget her delicious concoctions. Her food was her gift, both to many organizations in the community and to individuals. She was also a talented seamstress, sewing not only her children’s clothes, but drapes, slipcovers, and bedspreads, both for family and friends. She was skilled at needlepoint, embroidery, and knitting. She also enjoyed painting. Her talent and energy were boundless, and she donated both in abundance. But the memory of Florence will always include her sass and spunk.Tirelessly busy and amazingly productive, she spoke with very little filter. If you didn’t want to know, you’d best not ask, and often she would tell you even if you didn’t.You knew where you stood with Florence; she lived life her way. A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elberton, with Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Because of her devotion to all children, the family requests that donations be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in her memory at 1575 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329. Arrangements for Mrs. Florence K. Leverett were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
