Forrest Eugene Daniel

Forrest Eugene Daniel, 59, of Elberton, GA, died peacefully surrounded by family at home on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Born on November 17, 1962, in Columbus, GA, Forrest moved with his parents back to his father's hometown of Elberton in 1966 and enjoyed his childhood participating in sports and community events. He was a 1981 graduate of Samuel Elbert Academy and a graduate of the University of Georgia majoring in English.

In his youth, Forrest was an excellent athlete and he excelled in football, winning regional and state awards, as well as playing on state championship football and basketball teams. Forrest worked for many years in the granite industry. He also enjoyed serving as a basketball coach for the Upward Bound basketball program.

Forrest fought a courageous fight against esophageal cancer. He remained positive, never complained, and decided to help others. He donated his body to Augusta University Medical College of Georgia to help advance healthcare treatments for many people.

Survivors include his mother, Lois Nelson Daniel; brother, Sterling Daniel and sister-in-law Dr. Andrea D. Daniel, all of Elberton; one niece, Kimberlyn Daniel of Atlanta; special friend, Ellen Gunn of Elberton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and additional family members.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rodney Eugene Daniel; grandparents: Rachel and Everett Daniel and Esther and Ewell Nelson; and a loyal and beloved dog, Harrison.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to community members who assisted with his battle against esophageal cancer with meals, gift cards, blankets, care baskets, transportation, and more. Also, the family would like to thank Bristol Hospice, cousin Katy Harper, and Kaylee Dixon Ford and all other staff. In addition, the family would also like to thank Tanner Moore and Berry Funeral Home for their dedicated service.

A memorial service will be held at Van's Creek Baptist Church, 1733 Ruckersville Circle, Elberton, on Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 am with the Reverend John Case and the Reverend Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Sterling and Andrea Daniel at 120 Forest Avenue, Elberton.
