Frances Juanita Poteet Burden

Mrs. Frances Juanita Poteet Burden, 95, of Elberton, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.A native of Dalton, Georgia, Juanita was the daughter of the late Howard M. Poteet and Ollie Mae Palmer Poteet.She was an educator, having taught third grade at the Samuel Elbert Christian Academy.In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing golf on a women’s golfing team and being an accomplished seamstress, she made many of her clothes.She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church for over 25 years. In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Edgar Burden, and four brothers, John, Ralph, Fred and Farris Poteet. Survivors include a great niece, Rosalie Ham and her husband, Thomas of Jefferson; step daughter, Carol Cowart and two step grandsons, Christopher Cowart and Chad Cowart; and several great, great nieces and nephews. There was a time of visitation on Monday, February 22nd at 2:00 p.m. and a service to celebrate Mrs. Burden’s life was held at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home.Entombment followed in Elmhurst Cemetery.
