Mrs. Frances Daniel Truitt, 96, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Monday, September 28, 2020. She was born on August 31, 1924 to the late Frank Daniel and Lucille Daniel Brice of the Rock Branch community of Elberton. Mrs. Truitt attended Rock Branch School, and after graduating attended Toccoa Falls College from 1942-1943. She lived through several major events in our country’s history, including the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Pandemic of 2020. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Charles Cordell, Vernon Keith, and Albert Truitt; a sister, Pauline Hill; and a brother, Bernard Daniel. Her greatest joy was raising her family and cooking meals for family and friends. She always had a cake in the “cake-taker!” Frances truly had a mother’s heart, and was lovingly known as “Nanny” by friends of the family and all of her grandkids. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton. She had a great love for music and was a wonderful dancer. Frances was retired from the Elbert County Board of Education where she was a dietician in the lunchroom for many years at Beaverdam Elementary. She always found great pleasure in cooking for the children. She was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and was dedicated to honoring our veterans. She spent countless hours cooking for them and their families, raising funds for veterans’ hospitals, and supporting all the causes that would benefit veterans. It was very fitting that her Honorary Pallbearers were the Auxiliary Ladies of the VFW Post 5456. Frances is survived by her three children: Marie Parks (Marshall) of Hartwell, Jerita Carlton of Elberton, and Danny Keith also of Elberton; a step-son, Bobby Cordell (Mary) of South Augusta, SC; and step-daughter, Gloria Moss (Mark) of Brunswick. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren: Michele Parks Arnold of Flowery Branch, Chase Carlton, Casey Carlton Wolf (Eric), Cara Keith Gailey (Howard), Megan Keith Balchin (Emmett), and Mia Keith Parham (Kyle), all of Elberton; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Madeline, Macey, and Marley Arnold, Cadence and Mason Carlton, Ayden and Faith Gailey, Georgia and Eli Balchin, and Kelton Parham. A celebration of Frances’ life was held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. with Bishop Bill Jones officiating. The service was in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, and the family received friends from 2:30 p.m. until time for the service. Interment followed in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Allen Black, Sanford Butler, Kenneth Brown, Brad Burton, Blake Burton, and Kevin Fields serving as pallbearers. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare staff at Hart Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 5456, 1501 Calhoun Falls Hwy., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mrs. Frances Truitt were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
