Fred Matthew Hall, III

Mr. Fred Matthew "Sonny" Hall, III, 85, of Elberton, husband of Nancy Maxwell Hall, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at his Key Club home on Clarks Hill Lake.

 

Mr. Hall was born at the Thompson-Johnson Hospital in Elberton on August 21, 1938, son of the late Fred Matthew Hall, Jr. and Tommie Allgood Hall. He was a 1956 graduate of Elbert County High School and furthered his education at Clemson University. Fred served his country with the Georgia National Guard. His passion was truck driving, and he was privileged work as a truck driver all of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and a founding member of the Elbert County Key Club.

 

Known by many different nicknames, his favorite title was “Granddaddy.” He never missed an opportunity to be with his family, supporting them in all of their endeavors. He enjoyed travelling, old cars, and attending car shows. Fred loved watching the Atlanta Braves and spending time at the lake.

 

Along with his wife of 41 years, Nancy, he is survived by his children and their spouses: James and Teresa Hall, Melanie and Glenn “Rip” Lunsford, and Tracie and Stewart York, all of Elberton; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Mary Hall; grandchildren: Christy and Bobby Videon, Braden and Mackenzi Lunsford, Bryce and Jessica Lunsford, Brittany Andrews, Kayleigh McGee, Chandler and Hannah York, Connor and Ixchel York, Cross York, Riley and Tasha Yeargin, Jordan and Cody Reeves, Chance and Ashley Yeargin; great-grandchildren: Hudson Videon, Carli Andrews, Kason Lunsford, Kallen Lunsford, Dixon Lunsford, Willow Lunsford, Cove York, Cielle York, Harper Yeargin, Ronin Yeargin, Luke Yeargin, Payton Reeves, Skylar Reeves, Brylee Buffington; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Saxon Yeagin; and granddaughter, Jessica Lee Hall.

 

Fred will lie in state on Thursday, May 23, from 9:00a.m.-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, from 6:00-8:00p.m. during a drop-in celebration of life in the Club House at the Elberton Key Club.

 

Funeral services celebrating Fred's life will be held on Friday, May 24, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Braden Lunsford, Bryce Lunsford, Bobby Videon, Chance Yeargin, Connor York, Chandler York, and Riley Yeargin honored as pallbearers.
