Fredrick Arthur Ficquett, Jr. was born on September 24, 1937, to Fredrick Arthur Ficquett, Sr. and Nannie Bray Ficquett. He passed away on March 25, 2022, at the age of 84.
He loved his family, reading, the Atlanta Braves, NASCAR, history, and golf. He was a professional statistician and a math teacher. He grew up in Plainview, North Carolina and graduated from Plainview High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree from The University of Georgia.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jean “Jeannie” Ward Ficquett; his daughters: Nicole McLaughlin (Phillip) and Tina Moore (Mark); his grandchildren: Anders Yount (Zach), Erin Moore Fox (Jason), Vince Moore (Vivi), and Katie Burnett (Mark); great-grand-daughter, Madeline Fox; as well as his two cats: Millie and Lucy.
He began his career teaching high school geometry and other higher mathematics in North Carolina. During the Vietnam era he worked for the United States Department of Defense as a statistician. In 1975 he moved to Elbert County, Georgia where he taught at Elbert County Comprehensive High School until 1997. He remained friends with many of his colleagues, especially Oscar Ivory and Wayne Ward, among others. After retirement he played golf almost every day for years. More recently we all enjoyed dining with him frequently at Red Lobster.
Fred requested that no service be held. He will be interred in the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lowndesville, South Carolina. If you wish to make a donation in his memory the family suggests the American Red Cross.
He is loved deeply and will be missed.
