Mr. Galen Rucker Hutto passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at the age of 78. Mr. Hutto is preceded in death by his parents, Lonzie L. Hutto, Jr., and Sue Rucker Hutto of Elberton and his infant daughter, Leslie Hutto.
A proud mason for 50 years of the Washington and Henry Lodge, No. 344, A.F. & A.M., Mr. Hutto was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Samuel Elbert Chapter and of First United Methodist Church of Elberton.
Survivors include the love of his life, Cheryl Rauff Hutto, his wife of 35 years; his sister, Ginger Hutto Peters and Kenneth of Oxford, Ohio; his daughter, Shannon Hutton Derbique and Paul of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his grandson, Jack Adams Derbique, also of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Other much-loved survivors include Brandon Peters Flory and Keith, and son Lukas of Columbus, Ohio; Juli Riegle Funk and Matt, and daughter Leia of Gaylord, Michigan; Jason Riegle and son Carson of Gaylord, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Robyn Riegle of Gaylord, Michigan. In addition, Mr. Hutto will be missed by several treasured cousins.
Galen proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne Divison, U.S. Army, and was a life-long avid fisherman and boater. He and Cheryl spent many hours on their boat “cruising,” cruising the coastal waters.
Memorial services celebrating Galen’s life will be held on Monday, December 2, at the First United Methodist Church of Elberton, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00-1:45p.m. on Monday in the church prior to the service. Inurnment will be private in Elmhurst Cemetery.
