Mr. Gary Patrick Smith, 78, of Robinwood Lane, Elberton, GA, husband of 56 years to Judith Ann Williams Smith, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Gary was born in Shelby, NC on February 1, 1946, son of the late Ruth Smith Crilley. He was a 1964 graduate of Shelby High School and furthered his education at Gardner-Webb College and Pfeiffer College. His employement at Burlington Industries relocated the family to Calhoun Falls, SC in 1975 which ultimately led the Smiths to call Elberton home. Gary would later work as terminal manager at Brown Transport and ultimately retired from The Granite Source. He was Past Master of the former Calhoun Falls Masonic Lodge #283 F&AM. An avid sports fan, Gary enjoyed following college sports.

Surviving, along with his wife Judy, are his son, Alton Smith of Elberton, GA; siblings: Bob Smith of Shelby, NC and Sue Urmy of Guy, AR; grandchildren; Rowan Smith and Riley Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A time of visitation celebrating Gary's life will be held on Tuesday, March 5, from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock in the evening at Berry Funeral Home. Memorial services and burial will be held at a later date in the Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC.
