Gene Carroll Heard

Mr. Gene Carroll Heard, 89, of Tignall, Georgia died on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at his home in Hoschton, Georgia after an extended illness. His wife and family were at his bedside.

Mr. Heard was born in Tignall, Georgia on July 19, 1932, son of the late William Charles “Bill” Heard and Georgia ‘Blanche’ Bailey Heard. He was the oldest brother to Mary Lane Heard Lamoureux, Allen “Butch” Heard (d. 1971), and Lynda Heard Blakey (d. 1994). Gene graduated from Tignall High School and served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. He then returned home and worked at Rocky River Plant in South Carolina for 38 years until his retirement.

He married his sweetheart, and the love of his life, Mary Sue Roland Heard, in McCormick, South Carolina on October 23, 1982.

Mr. Heard was a dedicated member of Tignall Baptist Church for almost 80 years where he sang in the church choir and was deacon emeritus. He was an avid Braves Baseball and Georgia Football fan. He was a quiet, gentle man, with a hearty and genuine laugh that will not soon be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Roland Heard; sister, Mary Lane Heard Lamoureux; nieces and nephew: Dayna Lamoureux McEvoy (Michael), Susie Lamoureux Lundie (Mike), Laurie Lee Harbin (Tim), Christy Lee, Jamie Lee, Eddie Roland (Barbara), and Sandra Sykes (BJ); ten great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-niece and nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, at 1 o’clock at Tignall Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris King and Clyde Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Tignall Baptist Cemetery.
