Gene Lunceford

Eugene Franklin "Gene" Lunceford passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022, one week before his 87th birthday. 

Gene was born and raised in Wilkes County and was the son of the late Luther Lunceford and Ethel Dickens Lunceford.  He was an active member of Bethel E Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent.  He proudly served others by being active in the Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, and Gideons International.  Gene had a heart for helping his fellow man and he will be remembered by those he helped through his business Consolidated Credit- where he spent 50 years before selling the business. 

Gene leaves behind a legacy of hard work and determination; and instilled a solid work ethic in his family by teaching them to always finish what they start.  When Gene wasn’t working, he could be found in the woods or holding a fishing pole.  One thing is certain, he was always doing something and never slowed down. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jane Godsey Lunceford; six brothers, Edward, Mel, Henry, Bonnie, Lanier, and Bobby Lunceford; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorene and Tom Brown; and brother-in-law, Bud Godsey.

He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Rick Mewborne, and Renae and Wesley Moss; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Dianne Lunceford; grandchildren, Jana (Nick) Milford, Jodi Mewborne (Bryce Keely), Cody Moss (Elise Webb), Callie Moss, Brooke Lunceford (James Burke) and Jamie Ivester; great grandchildren, Jace Milford, Jax Milford, Kinsley Mewborne, Alex Ivester and Charlee Burke. He is also survived by his sister Pasty Cobo and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his beloved caregivers for their great and loving care.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Hicks Funeral Home.

A celebration of Gene's life will take place at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Bethel E Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Mize and Bryce Keely officiating.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Cody Moss, Nick Milford, Alex Ivester and Bryce Keely serving as pallbearers and Rick Mewborne and Wesley Moss serving as honorary pallbearers.
