Mr. George Richard Bailey, Sr., 82, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bailey was born in Washington, Georgia in 1932 to the late William J. and Bertha Mae Turner Bailey.He was the husband of Mildred Bradford Bailey.Mr. Bailey was a retired veteran with 43 years of service in the United States Army with a CW4 Rank.He served on the Salvation Army Board, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elberton. In addition to his wife, Mildred, Mr. Bailey is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Gary) Booth, and a daughter-in-law, Denise Bailey, all of Elberton;two step-children: Susan Brown of Elberton, and Randy Smith of Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren: Chad (Kari) Booth and Kayla (David) Cook, all of Dewy Rose, and Beau Bailey of Elberton; and five great-grandchildren.He also leaves behind sisters, Fannie Bussey and Mary Emma Nettles, both of Texas;and brothers,Leon Bailey of Texas and Gene Bailey of Tennessee. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by a son, George “Rickey” Bailey, Jr., seven brothers, and three sisters. A service to celebrate Mr. Bailey’s was held at First United Methodist Church of Elberton on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. Rev. Wallace Wheeles, Rev. Joe Watson, and Mr. George Thompson officiating.Visitation was at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary just prior to the service.Interment followed at Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery in Washington, Georgia.
