George Blanton Mattox

Mr. George Blanton Mattox, 93, of Mattox Lane, Lexington, GA husband of Hazel Huff Mattox passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospice House. Mr. Mattox was born January 24, 1923 in Oglethorpe County to the late John A. Mattox and Rossie Lovinggood Mattox. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Hazel Huff Mattox, children Billy "Sonny" Mattox, Mary and Eddy Hall and Wayne H. Mattox all of Lexington, GA; siblings Lessie Scott of Winterville, GA, Nell McCannon of Carlton, GA, William B. Mattox of Crawford, GA and granddaughter Audrey and Jimmy Justice. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings Ruth Cline, Monteen Smith, Parks Mattox, Johnny Doyle Mattox and Jimmy Mattox. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, January 28, at 2PM in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Bruce officiating. Interment will be in Palmetto Christian Church Cemetery. The family is at the home on Mattox Lane and will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday night at Berry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in his honor to St. Mary's Hospice House or to Vesta Baptist Church Building Fund.
