Mr. George ‘Richard’ Grimes, 62, of Madison Street, Comer, husband of 44 years to Toni Annette Kay Grimes, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.
Richard was born in Elberton on May 31, 1958, son of the late Edward Earl Grimes and Shirley Smith Grimes Anderson. He attended Elbert County High School where he played football. Richard was a 1976 graduate of Samuel Elbert Christian Academy where he played basketball. He was proud to have played Midget League Baseball at Camp Harmony, and under Beefy Eaves’s leadership won the championship and traveled to Canada to play. Richard previously worked at Ingles Supermarket and was most proud of having received his ministerial license. He was a dedicated member of Celebration Outreach Center as well as an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by his children: Richard ‘Dale’ Grimes and his wife Dawn of Anderson, SC and Tiffany Grimes Saturday of Tifton; grandchildren: Kathryn Elizabeth Grimes and Abigail Corrina Grimes; siblings: Eddie Grimes of Bowersville and Pam Gurley of Elberton; and friends too numerous to name.
Richard will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home on Monday, January 4, from 12:00-6:00p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
Due to COVID-19, a private crypt side service will be held on Tuesday, January 5, at the Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating.
