George Henry Webb

Mr. George Henry Webb, 82, of Elberton, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.He was born September 16, 1938 in Cornelia, the son of the late Rev. Paul W. and Gladys Gibby Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Martin; sister, Arlene Merritt; brothers, Paul Webb, Jr. and Luther Webb; and nephew Johnny Webb. Mr. Webb served his country in the U.S. Army and worked at several retail groceries but is best remembered locally as having worked as produce clerk at Ingles, where he gave out lollipops with a big friendly smile.To some of his seventeen grands he was Papa and to some he was Grandpa, but he loved them all dearly.Mr. Webb was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was a choir member.Loving sports, he cheered the Atlanta Braves on and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Mr. Webb leaves to cherish his memory, his bride of over fifty-six years, Dorieta Dunn Webb; daughter, Angela Campbell, Elberton; son and daughter-in-law, Vince and Donna Webb, Commerce; brother, Homer Webb, Elberton; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, October 17th at 2:00pm in the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Thrift officiating.Interment followed in the church cemetery with Military Honors.The family received friends after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Brotherhood Benevolence Fund, 2479 Antioch Church Rd., Dewy Rose, Ga 30634. Arrangements for Mr. George Henry Webb were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
