Gerald Allen Johnson, age 63, of Cumming, GA passed away suddenly Sunday, June 23, 2013. Funeral services include a visitation at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA on Tuesday, June 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 26 at the Midway United Methodist Church in Cumming, GA beginning at 2:00 pm. Born in Elberton, GA September 5, 1949, Gerald was a son of Alvin B. and Sara Dixon Johnson. After graduating high school in Elberton, Mr. Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968. He served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division until he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. Gerald met the love of his life, Martha, and the two were soon married. Three years later they welcomed their son, Brewer, into the world. Gerald was a dedicated husband and father. He always put the needs of others before his own, and put so much of himself into the relationships that meant the most to him. Mr. Johnson’s life was not characterized by his worldly possessions or his accomplishments, but how he treated others around him. He made the people in his life feel better by just being around him through a smile, a joke, or a story. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Martha Harkins Johnson, son, Brewer Johnson, and mother, Sara. He is also survived by three siblings, brother, Rodger Johnson, sisters, Dale (Roger) Sprouse and Nancy (Donnie) Flemming, and sister-in-law, Gloria Johnson. Gerald was preceded in death by his father Alvin, and brother, Tommie Johnson. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
