Gilda Faye Gortney Guest

Mrs. Gilda Faye Gortney Guest, 73, wife of 53 years to Mayor Larry L. Guest, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at her residence on Lake Forest Drive.

Gilda was born in Cordele on April 21, 1948, daughter of the late Shelby Clyde “Blackie” Gortney and Agnes Juanita Acree Gortney. She worked as a dental hygienist for many years and was among the first female Emergency Medical Technicians in Elbert County. “Gigi” loved her church and taught many young people through the discipleship program at Elberton First Baptist Church and Dewy Rose Baptist Church.

Gilda is survived by her husband, Larry, and two children, Alec and Erin; as well as her daughter-in-law, Carrie, and three grandchildren: Lexe, Tanner, and Ian.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, George Donald Smith.

Visitation with the family will be held at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday, April 29, from 6:00-8:00p.m.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, April 30, at 11 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Private burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
