Mr. Harry Jackson Miller, Jr., 95, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Mr. Miller was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late Harry Jackson Miller, Sr. and Mary Willis Miller.He was preceded in death by his precious bride, Martha Pierson Miller, with whom he had celebrated 68 years of marriage.He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Annette Miller, and a brother, Willis Miller. Mr. Miller proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force as a mechanic.Mr. Harry’s character and wisdom helped him become a very successful businessman.He came to Elberton as the owner and operator of the Elberton Coca-Cola Bottling Company.He later became a real estate agent and enjoyed the tasks that were part of that work. You could truly say that Mr. Harry had a thirst for knowledge, and found great delight in researching subjects of interest. One of his favorite things was when it was time to purchase a new car.He would research all aspects of the purchase, and was delighted once he found the absolutely best “new” used car on the market. Mr. Harry’s father presented his young son with unique opportunities during his lifetime as his family raised horses, which led to Harry having a trick pony. Also, his father was an Inaugural Member of Augusta National Golf Club, which presented Harry with the opportunity to have tickets to The Masters every year. He was a member of the Elberton First United Methodist Church, and formed many lifetime friendships throughout the years in this community.While his work and friendships were important and satisfying, Harry’s greatest love was his family.He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved beyond measure. Mr. Harry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Allan Veal of Elberton; and his grandchildren: Adam Carnell Veal and Trenton Miller Veal, both of Athens, and Wesley Heffernan and wife, Mandy, of Raleigh, North Carolina. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Kaleb Brice Heffernan and Paxton Elijah Heffernan, and a dear friend who was like a brother, George A. Gaines, of Elberton. A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Miller’s life was held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Elberton First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jim McCollough and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. A time of visitation was held at the church just prior to the service.Mr. Miller’s grandsons served as Honorary Pallbearers, and interment of the cremains was held in Elmhurst Cemetery. Flowers were graciously accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to the Elberton First United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 398, Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mr. Harry Jackson Miller were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
