Harvey Ottis Peurifoy, 100, of Greenwood, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Palmetto Patriots Home in Gaffney.
Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Brooks Peurifoy and Sarah Proctor Peurifoy Childs. Harvey worked for Mathews Mills at the age of 16 as a loom fixer. He met his first wife Trudy McKee and married before he joined the Army. He served with the Fifth Army 91st Infantry Division. When he returned from war, he attended Lander College while working third shift at Mathews Mill and delivering papers for the Index Journal. Harvey later took Bible courses at Erskine College and went to Emory University's Candler School of Theology in Atlanta. He devoted 44 years to the Ministry, serving at numerous churches and touching the lives of many with his unwavering faith and love for the Lord. He has always given God credit for anything he has done. He was a man of great integrity, loyalty, and dedication, leaving behind a legacy of service and faithfulness.
Harvey and Trudy were married for 62 years and had four sons. Following her passing he went on to marry two more times to the late Lelia Attaway Peurifoy and June Lester Brock.
In addition to his three wives, he was preceded in death by his sons, Barry and Keith Peurifoy; a granddaughter, Tammie Peurifoy; grandson, Charles Ray "Chuck" Peurifoy; great grandchildren, Michael Keith Peurifoy and Brandi Nicole Peurifoy; sisters, Maude Spearman and Sarah Herring; and brothers, T. W. Peurifoy and Clyde Peurifoy.
Surviving are his sons, Wayne Peurifoy (Sarah) of Greenwood and Charles Ray Peurifoy (Mary Beth) of Clemson; a sister, Mabel Johnson of Elberton, GA; and grandchildren, Brooks, Mark, Sarah Elizabeth, Tommy, Joanna, Keith and Patricia Peurifoy; and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Watson, Dr. Bobby Gilbert and Rev. Sandra King officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-6pm.
