Hazel Marie Hammons Bowden

Mrs. Hazel Marie Hammons Bowden, 83, of River Road, Elberton, wife of the late William Bryant “Bill” Bowden, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

Mrs. Bowden was born in Arcadia, FL on July 19, 1941, daughter of the late Charles F. “Charlie” Hammons and Anna Lois Stokes Hammons. While attending high school, she was a member of the band. Not only did she play clarinet, but she was an accomplished pianist. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Later in life, she she found a love of animals, especially horses, and all things western.

She leaves behind three children: Lance (Jackie) Bliss of Artesia, NM, Lorena Welch of Arcadia, FL, and Charles (Terri) Bowling of Colbert; four grandchildren: Melissa Bliss, Emily (Eric) Hoffman, David Mills, and Desiree Bowling; and five great-grandchildren.
