Hazel Brown Burton

Mrs. Hazel Brown Burton, 81, of Hartwell, GA, wife of the late Neal Lynwood Burton, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at Hartwell Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Burton was born January 3, 1935, in Hart County, GA, daughter of the late Dile Brown and Hattie Mae Dutton Burton. She worked in the Jewelry Department at Walmart and was an active member of Faith Baptist Church until her health declined.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law: Mikey Harris of Winterville, GA, Ronnie and Becky Harris of Bowman, GA, and Patrick Burton of Dewy Rose, GA; daughters and sons-in-law: Pat Moon of Bowman, GA, Jean and DD Shaw of Bowman, GA, and Connie and Shannon Starrett of Elberton, GA; step-sons: Dale Burton of Fair Play, SC and Stoney Burton of Laurens, SC; siblings: Charles Brown of Bowman, GA, Larry Brown of Hull, GA, and Betty Burton of Honea Path, SC; grandchildren: Shelby Starrett, John Shaw, Andy Moon, Jason Moon, Christie Campbell, Shannon McCurry, Bobby Burton, Ricky Burton, Brittany Burton, Shelly Harris, and Steven Harris; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by siblings: Amos Brown, Bruce Brown, Tom Brown, Roy Brown, Tommy Brown, Pauline Jordan, Lucille Wilhite, Eunis Dutton, and Fred Brown.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 2PM, Sunday, August 28, at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Callaway, Rev. John Creason and Rev. David McConnell officiating. Mrs. Burton will be placed in the church to lie in state from 1-2PM just prior to the service. Interment will follow in Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery in Iva, SC with grandsons Andy Moon, John Shaw, Bobby Burton, Steven Harris, Mark Campbell, and Tony McCurry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons Ricky Oglesby, Tim Jordan, Paul Lundy and Steve Christian.

The family will be at the home of Jean and DD Shaw 2152 Christian Road, Bowman, GA and will receive friends from 6-8PM Saturday night at Berry Funeral Home. Flowers are optional and memorials can be made in her honor to WMU at Faith Baptist Church.
