Mrs. Melba ‘Helen’ Smith Tindal, 91, formerly of Elberton, GA wife of 64 years to the late William Lee "Bill" Tindal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, GA surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Tindal was born in Screven County, GA on December 6, 1932, daughter of the late Tyrus Lemuel Smith and Ester Griner Smith. She retired from Wilkes Transport after spending the majority of her career as Payroll Manager at Brown Transport where she worked alongside her husband for many years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and the church’s Alpha Louree Sunday school class. While not working, Helen could often be found with a book in her hand. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and telling stories.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Telene “Bunny” Heiple and her husband Jerry of Acworth, GA; two granddaughters: Emily and Derek Brand of Kennesaw, GA and Kelsey and Branden Colton of Auburndale, FL; two great-granddaughters: Bailey Brand and Avery Brand; brother, Ty Smith and his wife Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved Bill, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Ollie Nell Rockett, Amanda Teague, Mary Ellen Moore, Gail Mosley, and Perrin Smith.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, from 11:00-11:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
