Hoke Smith Anderson, Jr.

Mr. Hoke Smith Anderson, Jr., 84, of Middleton Church Road, Elberton, husband of the late Cora Sue Fleming Anderson, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Gentiva Hospice of Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. Anderson was born in Elbert County on October 9, 1930, to the late Hoke Smith Anderson, Sr. and Zelma Adams Anderson Johnson. He was a member of Vans Creek Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Anderson was retired from the granite industry and was an avid farmer. Left to cherish his memories are his son, Terry Anderson of Elberton; grandchildren: Cory Anderson, Shane and Callie Anderson, and Clay Anderson; Jason and Kristen Anderson, great-grandchildren: Mason, Phillip, and Chandler Anderson; siblings: Joel Anderson of Elberton, Wilton Anderson of Calhoun Falls, SC, Mornay Pless of Dewy Rose, and Patricia Vaughn of Starr, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Walt Anderson; and a sister, Edla Pless. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, October 27, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Martin officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Shane Anderson, Jason Anderson, Clay Anderson, Cory Anderson, Harley Thomas, and Chris Alexander honored as pallbearers. Mason Anderson and Phillip Anderson will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00p.m. on Sunday evening.
