Mr. Howard Manning Dye, 72, of Bakers Ferry Road, Elberton, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, with his wife of 49 years, Anne Cartihers Dye, at his side.
Howard was born in Elberton on June 16, 1947, son of the late Harold Floyd Dye, Sr. and Jewell Estelle Childs Dye. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War and a member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Howard worked for the City of Elberton as a Police Officer for 7 1/2 years and retired from the granite industry as a polisher after many years of service. “Pawpaw” enjoyed golf cart and four wheeler rides, camping, listening to gospel music, and tending to his yard.
In addition to his wife, Anne, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Brandon and Angie Dye and Jessica and Roger Brown, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Averie Grace Dye, Ryker Brown, and Gage Manning Brown, all of Elberton; siblings: Jackie Dixon of Elberton, Marguerite McCall of Elberton, Harold Dye of Elberton, Tommy Dye of Abbeville, SC, and Kenneth and Ellen Dye of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday, July 18, from 6:00-8:00p.m. At other hours they may be contacted at the residence.
