Mrs. Iletha Attaway Thornton, 91, formerly of Elberton, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, in the Tignall House Assisted Living, where she had been a resident for the past five years. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Thornton was the daughter of the late Alvin G. and Annie Parnell Attaway.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death bygranddaughter, Kelly Butler,great grandson, Braylon Butler, three sisters and one brother.She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and had worked assecretary for the President of Georgia State University.Mrs. Thornton enjoyed painting pottery. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Bruce and Teresa Thornton of Stockbridge, and David and Audrey Thornton of Grayson; three grandchildren, David, Luke and Bryan Thornton; and three great grandchildren, Gracie and Maddie Thornton and Preston Nunz. Funeral services were held at 2:00pm, Monday, January 8, 2018 in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.Interment followed in the Elmhurst Cemetery with Bryan Thornton, David Thornton, Luke Thornton, Alvin Brady, Randall Brady and Phillip Brady serving as pallbearers.
