J. Frank Burden

Mr. Jim Frank Burden, 92, of Elberton, GA died November 5, 2009 at Elbert Memorial Hospital in Elberton. Mr. Burden was born in Elbert County on September 16, 1917, son of the late Lee Llewellyn Burden and Myrtie Chastain Burden. He was a long-standing member of the Elberton Church of God, now known as The Solid Rock Worship Center, where he served as head usher for a number of years. He also served as a youth Sunday School teacher for several years. Mr. Burden is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Magnettie Pless Burden. He is also survived by son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Erlene Burden; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Cindy Burden; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Vernon (Junior) Vaughn; daughter, Sarah Anderson, all of Elberton; and son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Linda Burden of Athens. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Charlie Burden of Calhoun Falls, SC. Mr. Burden was preceded in death by a twin sister, Frances; 2 other sisters, Annie Ruth and Estelle; and 4 brothers, Tom, Buford, Walton, and Julian. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Friday evening, November 6, at Hicks Funeral Home in Elberton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 7 in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Suttles and Bishop Randy Coggins officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton. The family will be accepting flowers.
