James Frank Slay, 91, of 1483 Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, husband of 70 years to Janice Dickerson Slay, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 1, 2012, in the Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Slay was born in Elbert County, January 5, 1921, to the late Lonnie Green Slay and Elizabeth Johnson Slay. He was Baptist by faith, a retired barber, and a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of the home; daughter, Sandra Bridges of Elberton; sister, Elree Bradford of Dearing; grandchildren, James David Bridges, MIchael Allen Bridges, Melissa Faye Shead, all of Elberton, and Amanda Dawn Richard of Bogart; great-grandchildren, David, Anna, Brandi, Kayla, Jessica, Nick, and Chris; and one great-great-grandchild, Kylie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Raymond Slay and Frances Hawkins. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 2:30PM Saturday, August 4, in the Dewy Rose Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Martin and Mr. Paul Dickerson officiating. In accordance to Mr. Slay's wishes, his body has been cremated. The Slay family is at the residence, 1483 Calhoun Falls Highway and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6-8PM Friday evening. Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Mr. Slay's honor to Dewy Rose Baptist Church, 1923 Pulliam Mill Road, Dewy Rose, Georgia 30634.
