With great sadness, the family of Pastor J. Howard Salter, announce his passing. He finished his earthly race on October 26, 2024, the day before his 49th birthday, at his family property, near Elberton, Georgia. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. He loved fiercely and in the end, his heart gave out. He and his wife had just gone to Georgia, from Orlando, a couple weeks before.
He is survived by his wife, of 26 years, Rebekah (Cooper), four children, Martin Salter, Madison (Sean) Genette, Emily Salter, and Kimberly Salter, his mother, Betty Salter, sister, Kasey (Marcus) Yulfo, many nieces and nephews, (Cheyenne, Elizabeth, Joel, Aurora, Harley, Haylee, Randy, Elena) and great nieces (Ember, Maci, and Sierra), along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in laws. He is also survived by countless friends that became family over the years. He is preceded in death by his father, Cary Salter, grandparents, Howard and Pauline Bennett, Cary and Elsie Salter, and an angel baby he is finally getting to hold.
Howard served seven years in the US Army, as an Infantry soldier, and served a one-year tour in Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the civilian word, he most recently served as lead pastor of Belong Church, Orlando, from 2019-2024, worked as a technical instruction lead for Accenture, and karaoke/trivia host for a local bar. His heart has always been for serving people and showing them the love of Jesus. He had a way of making sure any person he encountered knew they were seen and deeply loved. His wisdom and practicality in teaching The Word of God was a divine gift. In his spare time, he was an amazing vocalist and guitarist, loving all types of music and attending live shows. He was also passionate about learning skills for building his newly purchased family homestead, where he planned to spend the rest of his life. We just didn’t know how short the time there would be. His passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11am, at Church on the Drive (1914 Edgewater Dr, Orlando, Florida).
Donations can be made, in his memory, to Mission 22, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or your favorite charity.
