Jackson Phillip "Jack" Busby

Jackson Phillip “Jack” Busby, 76, of Springdale Road, Elberton, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Augusta University Medical Center with his family at his side.

Born on October 19, 1945, in Fort Bragg, NC, Jack spent most of his life in Elberton. He was the only son of the late Oscar Lee Busby and Fenora Eugenia Jones Busby, and is also preceded in death by his grandparents: Jake and Ruby Jones and JP and Clara Busby; his sister, Brenda Hatcher; and brother-in-law, Larry Blackmon.

Jack was a 1963 graduate of Elbert County High School where he proudly played on the football team. He furthered his education at Georgia Military College and received a Bachelors degree from Georgia Southwestern University, major in history and minor in Spanish. Selflessly, Jack served his country in the United States Army National Guard.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton and a retired salesman. Jack enjoyed working in his vegetable garden as longs his health permitted and was an avid Georgia Tech football fan. He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed beach vacations. There is not a bigger beach music fan than Jack Busby.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mary Linda ‘Scoggins’ Busby; daughters: Jenny (Scott) Ridgway of Powder Springs and Jill (Alex) Beal of Gulf Shores, AL; step-children: Hope (Curtis) Smith of Winder, Lee Kelley of Elberton, Vince (Vickie) Kelley of Lexington, KY, and Kim (Grant) Jordan of Bowman; sisters: Judy Blackmon and Becky (Tony) Roberts, both of Elberton; grandchildren: Andrew and Regan Ridgway, and Xander, Kaitlyn, and Brayden Beal; step-grandchildren: Brandon Rucker, Madison Kelley, and Sophia Kelley; step-great-grandchildren: Corbin Rucker and Cooper Rucker; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services celebrating Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, August 20, at 11 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-10:45.a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
