Mr. James Allen Mathews, 71, of Eades Road, Carlton, husband of 48 years to Janelle Stewart Mathews, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Northridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Commerce.
Mr. Mathews was born in the Glade Community of Oglethorpe County on April 29, 1945, son of the late Philip David Mathews and Janie Elizabeth Allgood Mathews. He was a self-employed commercial welder and electrician, and a member of Glade United Methodist Church. Mr. Mathews was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge #158 and a Shriner. He was a former member of the Elberton Gun Club and an avid fisherman and trap shooter. Allen loved classic cars and classic car shows.
Surviving are his wife, Janelle of Carlton; daughter, Tracy Mathews and her husband Neal Crumb of Watkinsville; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by infant siblings: David and Denise.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, at 11 o’clock in Glade Cemetery with the Rev. David Burt officiating. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Tuesday evening.
