James Douglas Almond Sr.

Douglas Almond, age 78, entered into rest on Sunday, December 18, 2022 following an extended illness.

Doug was born in Athens Ga to the late Thomas Dallas Almond and Eloise Smith Almond. He lived in Elberton Ga for most of his younger years and the later years in Lavonia Ga. While in good health, Doug was a stonecutter in the Elberton granite sheds.  He could also be found in the woods with his sights on a deer, or with a line in the water.  When he wasn’t outside, Doug could be found in front of his television watching Nascar or playing a hand of poker.  He was a card carrying member of the Bill Elliott Fan Club and the NRA.  Doug will be remembered for his knack for telling stories and his love of family. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Almond and Jack Almond.

Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Almond; children, Sherry Demers (Gary), Terri Almond, James Almond, Jr. (Rita), Sonya Johnson (Danny), and Jamie Smith; brother and sisters, Brenda Haynie, Danny Almond (Carol), and Tammy Almond; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Doug’s life will take place at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2022 in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
