Mr. James ‘Marion’ Banks, age 82, of Elberton, husband of Linda Jane Webb Banks, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital with his family at his side.
Mr. Banks was born in Stephens County on October 12, 1942, son of the late Alexander Stephens Banks and Mary Lou Verner Banks. He was a graduate of Banks County High School, and a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Marion spent most of his life working in the granite industry, mostly remembered as a salesman from Apex Granite Company and retiring from Central Granite Company. Beyond his professional life, he was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in gardening, rabbit hunting, and deer hunting. His passion for nature mirrored the love he had for his family and friends, and he took great pride in being “Big Dad” to his grandchildren. Supporting them in their endeavors was among his proudest accomplishments, a testament to the loving legacy he leaves behind.
In addition to Linda, his wife of 59 years, Marion is survived by his children: Karey and Michael Coombs, and Stephen and Kathy Banks, all of Elberton; and his grandchildren, Turner Banks, Allie Cohen, Eliza and Colin Glover, Emily Cohen, Dalton Cohen, Brooks Banks, and Ellie Coombs. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Imogene Banks Caudell.
The family is at the home of Stephen and Kathy Banks, 1767 Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, and will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Memorial services celebrating Marion’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, March 12, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Doves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Doves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1971 Athens Highway, Elberton, GA 30635 or to T.J. & Friends Foundation, Post Office Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635.
