James Burkhead

Mr. Hily James Burkhead, 62, of Rock Branch Rd., Elberton, GA passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospice House.

Mr. Burkhead was born October 4, 1955 in Des Moines, IA to Wayne Burkhead and LaDeva Carlson Burkhead Ivie. He was a member of Believers Baptist Church, a retired forklift operator of 40 years from CertainTeed-St. Gobain Corp. in Athens, GA and was a avid GA Bulldog fan.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years: Audrey Peck Burkhead; son and daughter-in-law: James “Jimmy” and Jamie Burkhead of Athens, TN; daughter and son-in-law: Amanda “Mandy” and Jeremy Dotson of Elberton, GA; twin brother: Dennis Burkhead of Hartwell, GA; sisters: Diane Roberts of Elberton, GA; Carol Ivie of Ila, GA; and grandchildren: Sara Beth Dotson and Hope Dotson.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his step-father who raised him Mr. Floyd Ivie.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will 1PM, Friday, December 1 at Believers Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Dotson officiating. Interment will follow in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Ricky Tiller, Leland Peck, Buddy Ivie, Bobby Ivie, Brent Roberts, Mark Freeman, David Beck and Mike McElroy serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11AM to 1PM just prior to the service at Believers Baptist Church.
