Mr. James David Burch, 79, of Tignall, GA, entered into rest peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elberton, GA with his daughter at his side.
Mr. Burch was born in Waynesville, NC on January 28, 1940, son of the late David Calhoun Burch and Nova Ruth Hipps Burch. He attended and was a graduate of Canton High School where he was a member of the 1956 state champion football team. David was awarded a football scholarship to Duke University where he played for 5 years, and later played for the Washington Redskins. Mr. Burch was an employee of Dayco Corportation for 38 years, retiring as Vice President. He was a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially Duke football.
Surviving are his children: Jonathan Cody Burch of Clyde, NC, Kristin Melissa Burch of Tignall, GA, and Shannon Nell Burch Porterfield of Ocala, FL; sister, Marilyn Burch Taylor of Clyde, NC; grandchildren: Kasi Deiser, Robert James Bute, Brandy Pierce, and Caleb Burch; great-grandchildren: Brock Joseph James Desier, Kimber Melissa Deiser, Hayden Pierce, and Nathan Pierce; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Janice West Burch; and brother, John Robert Burch.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 12, at 12 noon at Clark Chapel Cemetery in Canton, NC with the Rev. Esta Jarrett officiating.
