James Harold Anderson

James H. Anderson, age 54, gained his Heavenly reward on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 while he was surrounded by his loving family.

James was raised in Forsyth County. He was a member of the 1986 graduating class of the former Forsyth County High School (now Forsyth Central) where he was given a standing ovation as he walked across the stage at the commencement ceremony.  Although he never held a public job, James enjoyed working on his family’s farms in both Forsyth County and later Elbert County, where he was often found tinkering on the tractors and four wheelers.

The family sold their farm in North Georgia and moved to Elbert County in 2005.  Eventually becoming a resident of Spring Valley, James quickly went to work and became known as the home’s “Wal-Mart Greeter.”  He greeted everyone at the door with at least a hug or a fist bump- but the “Casanova” in him also made sure the ladies received a kiss on the hand.

He could often be found in front of the television watching the Atlanta Braves or the UGA Bulldogs.  Already an avid fan of the Dawgs, his time at Spring Valley only accelerated that love due to all the “Roll Tides” playfully thrown at him from the staff and other residents.

James was preceded in death by his father, Harold Anderson; niece, Tanna Anderson; and a number of aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his mother, Mary “Maggie” Anderson; sister, Judy Garner (Ed); brother, Jerry Anderson (Tammy); nieces and nephew, Kimberly Garner, Micheal Garner, Tanya Hill (Ben), and Janna Anderson; great niece, Katie Lynn Garner; aunts and uncle, Barbara Matthews, Diane Noles (Ronnie), Kerry Keyes, and Larry Anderson (Joan); special family friend, Ray Bradshaw; and many more loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He is also survived by his loving family at Spring Valley.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Hicks.

A funeral service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 31, 2023 in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Garmany and Pastor Scott Day officiating.  Interment will follow in Middleton Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Middleton Methodist Church, P.O. Box 660, Elberton, GA, 30635.
