James Howard Gunter

James Howard "ZEKE" Gunter, 87, of 212 Gordon St. Elberton, widow of the late Mazell Locke Gunter died Sunday March 7, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospice House. Born in Elbert County, he was a son of the late Thomas Gunter and Ruby Fleming Gunter. He attended Frances Asbury UMC and was a life member of the VFW Post #5456 and a member of the Elbert County Moose Lodge #1099, and retired stone polisher. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Survivors include his daughter Carol & Bob Walters of Elberton, GA, sons Dennis & Velma Gunter of Hartwell, GA., Steve Gunter and Larry & Elaine Gunter both of Elberton Ga. Sisters Marjorie Bettis and Janite Boles both of Elberton GA. 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2great-great grandchildren and a number of step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers Leon Gunter and Hubert Ellis Gunter and a sister Katherine Brookshire. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 10, at 3PM at the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. DAvid McConnell officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will be at the home 212 Gordon St. and will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday night at Berry Funeral Home. Flowers optional and memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, P.O.
