Mr. James Neal Jackson, 93, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Saturday evening, July 26, 2014 at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Jackson was the son of the late Elmer and Wilena Neal Jackson.He was the widow of Joan Polk Jackson, his precious bride for over 57 years.He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, and was the Superintendent of the Electric and Water Dept. for Elberton’s city government for over 20 years before his retirement in the mid-1980’s.Mr. Jackson was a retired veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jackson was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton, and The Victory Sunday School Class.He was also active in civic opportunities throughout his life as a member of the Elberton Kiwanis Club. Mr. Jackson is survived by two daughters: Judy Palmer of Elberton, and Jamie Henderson and her husband, Jack, of Lilburn;and his grandchildren:Jenna Palmer, Jonathan Palmer, James Henderson (Rachel) of Hoschton, and Jacquelyn Lavender (Mark) of Winder.He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren;and a sister, Alice Compton, of Las Cruces, New Mexico. A service to celebrate Mr. Jackson’s life was held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Elberton, with Rev. Raymond Scott and Rev. Gary Purvis officiating.Visitation for family and friends was Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall just prior to the service.Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Elberton at 132 Heard Street, Elberton, GA 30635, or to The Alzheimer’s Foundation at 322 Eighth Ave., 7th floor, New York, NY 10001. Hicks Funeral Home of Elberton was honored to care for the family of Mr. James Neal Jackson.
