James Kenneth Sanders, 75, of Elberton, died on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. He was born in Elberton on July 19, 1946, son of the late Charles Thomas Sanders, Sr. and Josephine Elizabeth Lunsford Sanders.
Kenneth was a 1964 graduate of Elbert County High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia where he obtained a bachelors degree in business administration. He was a Certified Public Accountant having co-owned, with Marion Fortson, Fortson & Sanders Certified Public Accountants on the Elberton Square for many years. Civically, he was a member and past exalted ruler of the Elberton Elks Lodge #1100; member and past president of Elberton Rotary Club where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award; former member and past president of Elbert County True Blue Booster Club; and a member of First United Methodist Church. Above all, Kenneth was devoted to this family and was always actively involved in any event his children and grandchildren were involved in.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kay Mercer Sanders; three children: Todd Dixon of Greensboro, Kenneth Sanders and his wife Stacy of Sylvania, and Susanne Sanders of Elberton; sister, Fleta Bishop of Elberton; grandchildren: Paul Dixon, Grant Yarber, Emree Yarber, Luke Dixon, Ashley Sanders, and Kimberly Sanders; special sister-in-law, Cynthia Mercer and her husband Thomas Rogers of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Thomas “Tom” Sanders, Jr.
Graveside services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, April 7, at 11 o’clock at Forest Hills Memorial Park with Dr. Michael Stovall officiating. The family will speak to attendees following the service, and may be contacted at the residence during other times.
Mr. Sanders will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 6, from 9:00a.m.-4:30p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
